CKD

Non-urgent advice: Chronic Kidney Disease

Dear Patient,

Your recent blood tests have confirmed you have a condition called Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Although this sounds concerning, it affects around 10% of the UK population and usually just requires annual monitoring.

Normally there are no symptoms of CKD in the early stages and in most cases it is identified from a blood test or urine test for another reason.

It's important to know about CKD because it can increase your risk of having a heart attack or stroke, however it only progresses to serious kidney disease in around 1 in 50 people over time.

Most people are able to control this condition through making healthy lifestyle changes and ensuring any underlying conditions you have are well controlled.

We will be doing annual check ups to monitor your blood pressure, blood and urine, to help monitor your risk, and will provide an individualised treatment plan as required. You will usually be contacted during the month of your birth.

We recommend you visit www.kidneycareuk.org where are excellent resources to learn more about this condition. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact our clinical team to discuss further.
